The trend of China’s imported car market has continued to decline since 2017, and the negative growth rate affected by the epidemic situation has been increasing recently. Although the domestic luxury car market continues to strengthen, the imported car market is weak, which is also the advantage of localization. Analysis of imported automobile market in 2020

Sales: from January to December, the terminal sales of imported passenger cars were 1 million, with a cumulative year-on-year decline of 10.6%, and the decline continued to narrow. In December, the terminal sales of imported passenger cars were 119000, a year-on-year increase of 3.5%, mainly due to the sales of SUVs.

Model structure: from January to December, cars and SUVs still dominated the sales of imported passenger cars, accounting for 96%; cars, SUVs and MPVS decreased by 10.8%, 10.5% and 10.4% respectively.

Level structure: from January to December, the market share of large and medium-sized imported vehicles continued to increase by 1.7% and 8.0% respectively compared with that of 2019; the market share of other segments decreased, among which the market share of medium-sized and compact imported vehicles decreased by 6.3% and 2.1% respectively. Data show that the impact of the epidemic on the high-end market is relatively small.

Brand structure: from January to December, Lexus still ranked first in imported brands and Mercedes Benz ranked second; among the top ten brands, except Lexus and Mercedes Benz, other brands still declined. Luxury brands are still the main sales force, accounting for 80.4% of the total sales; non luxury brands are down 28.6%, luxury brands are down 5.1%, the decline is narrowed, and super luxury brands are up 16.0% against the trend.

Displacement structure: from January to December 2020, 2.0 ~ 2.5L is in the first displacement range, with a share of 44.2%, but a decrease of 1.5%; due to Tesla’s domestic production, the share of emissions below 1.0L is reduced by 3.1%; the overall share of emissions between 2.5 ~ 4.0L is 40.6%.

The overall share of l2.5-4.0l emission range is 40.6%, an increase of 6.8 percentage points over the whole year of 2019. Among them, the share of 2.5-3.0l emission range increased by 3.5 percentage points; the share of 3.0-4.0l emission range increased by 3.2 percentage points.
