In December 2020, the national consumer price rose by 0.2% year on year. Among them, urban prices rose by 0.2%, rural prices rose by 0.2%; food prices rose by 1.2%, non food prices were flat; consumer goods prices rose by 0.2%, service prices rose by 0.3%.

In December, China’s consumer prices rose 0.7% month on month. Among them, urban prices rose by 0.7%, rural prices rose by 0.9%; food prices rose by 2.8%, non food prices rose by 0.1%; consumer goods prices rose by 1.2%, service prices were flat.

In 2020, the national consumer price will rise by 2.5% over the previous year.

1、 Year on year changes in prices of various goods and services

In December, the price of food, tobacco and alcohol rose by 1.4% year on year, affecting the CPI (consumer price index) to rise by about 0.44 percentage points. In food, fresh vegetable price increased by 6.5%, which affected CPI by about 0.17%; fresh fruit price increased by 6.5%, which affected CPI by about 0.11%; aquatic product price increased by 1.7%, which affected CPI by about 0.03%; animal meat price increased by 0.6%, which affected CPI by about 0.04%, in which pork price decreased by 1.3%, which affected CPI by about 0.06% The decrease of CPI was about 0.07 percentage points.  

The prices of the other seven categories rose, leveled and fell. Among them, the prices of other goods and services, medical care, education, culture and entertainment increased by 2.2%, 1.3% and 0.9% respectively; the prices of daily necessities and services remained flat; the prices of transportation and communication, housing and clothing decreased by 3.1%, 0.6% and 0.1% respectively.

2、 Month on month changes in prices of various goods and services

In December, the price of food, tobacco and alcohol rose by 2.0% on a month on month basis, which affected the CPI rise by about 0.63 percentage points. In food, fresh vegetable price increased by 8.5%, which affected CPI by about 0.22%; livestock and meat price increased by 4.3%, which affected CPI by about 0.29%, including pork price increased by 6.5%, which affected CPI by about 0.28%; fresh fruit price increased by 3.5%, which affected CPI by about 0.06%; egg price increased by 2.4%, which affected CPI by about 0.01%; aquatic product price increased by 2.4% CPI rose by 0.8%, which affected CPI by about 0.01 percentage point.

The prices of the other seven categories rose, leveled and fell on a month on month basis. Among them, the prices of transportation and communication, housing, daily necessities and services increased by 0.9%, 0.1% and 0.1% respectively; the prices of clothing and medical care were flat; the prices of other goods and services, education, culture and entertainment decreased by 0.4% and 0.1% respectively.
