According to domestic media reports, China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) released today the 47th statistical report on the development of China’s Internet. According to the report, as of December 2020, the number of Internet users in China has reached 989 million, accounting for about one fifth of the total number of Internet users in the world.

In terms of income structure, 32.7% of netizens had a monthly income of 2001-5000 yuan, 29.3% had a monthly income of more than 5000 yuan, and 14.8% had a monthly income of more than 8000 yuan.

15.3% of the netizens had income but monthly income of 1000 yuan or less. Non income Internet users accounted for 10.8%.

In terms of age, as of December 2020, the proportion of Internet users aged 20-29, 30-39 and 40-49 were 17.8%, 20.5% and 18.8% respectively, higher than that of other age groups.

The proportion of Internet users aged 50 and above has increased from 16.9% in March 2020 to 26.3%, and the Internet has further penetrated into the middle-aged and elderly groups.

In terms of occupational structure, the number of middle school students is the largest among netizens in China, accounting for 21.0%; in terms of academic structure, 43% of netizens have junior high school education.
