Many Americans spend their own winter vacation and new year this year. Those who celebrate their own holidays are indeed more likely to describe the holiday as “bad” or “bad” than those who spend the new year in the company.
According to YouGov, one in nine Americans (11%) spent their December vacation alone, while one in six spent new year’s Eve and new year’s day on their own (16%). About half of Americans (48%) spent December holidays with their families, and more spent January holidays with their families (56%). One third of Americans (36%) spend their December holidays with people other than their family, including friends or extended families. Only 17% do so during the new year.
According to a YouGov poll conducted from December 26 to 29, about a quarter (26%) of Americans who celebrate their holidays describe the season as “bad.”. That’s three times as many adults (8%) spend their holidays with family members. For those who spent the holiday with people outside their families, the proportion was even lower (3%).
Two fifths of Americans who celebrate their own holiday (42%) say it’s “OK”, compared with only a quarter of Americans who celebrate with people other than their families (24%).
Those who celebrate the new year alone are more likely to find it fun than those who spend the december holiday alone. About two fifths (44%) of those who spent the festival alone described early 2021 as good (22%) or very good (22%). A similar proportion (44%) thought it was ok, and only 1 / 8 of the people who spent the holiday alone (12%) described it as bad or terrible.
