[1]. BIS report: it will be several years before the global adoption of CBDC

In the third annual CBDC survey, 86% of central banks said they were at least considering the pros and cons of issuing digital currency, up from 80% last year, according to the bank for International Settlements (BIS) research report released on Wednesday. In addition, 60% of central banks are currently conducting CBDC experiments or proof of concept, and only 42% in 2019. The bank for International Settlements said the central bank, which represents one fifth of the world’s population, is likely to issue generic CBDC in the next three years. However, although the research on CBDC is gradually rising, it may still take several years before the global adoption of CBDC. Half of the central banks said in 2019 that they were “likely” to issue CBDC in the short term, while in the 2020 survey, they lowered the sentiment to “possible” or “unlikely”. Among the central banks under investigation, the legitimacy of CBDC remains an open question. 48% of central banks are not sure whether they have the right to issue digital currency, while 26% are sure they do not.
