Momo conducted a sample survey of nearly 10000 Internet users and released the 2021 Internet users’ body anxiety report. The report shows that more than 50% of Internet users have body anxiety, and 30% of female Internet users weigh themselves once a day; 70% of netizens think that obesity affects social interaction, 40% of netizens beautify their height or weight on social networks, and more than 60% of netizens care about the figure of their lovers.

According to Momo’s 2021 netizen body anxiety report, 54.1% of netizens have body anxiety, 46.4% think they are too fat and need to lose weight, and 25% weigh themselves once a day.

From the perspective of gender, female netizens have more body anxiety than male netizens. Among female netizens, 54.3% thought they were too fat and needed to lose weight, 5.3% thought they were too thin and needed to gain weight, and 40.5% had no body anxiety; 31% of male netizens think they are too fat and need to lose weight, 12.5% think they are too thin and need to gain weight, and 56.5% have no body anxiety. From the frequency of weighing, female netizens are also more frequent than male netizens. 31.9% of female netizens weigh themselves once a day, only 11.3% of male netizens, and 48.1% of male netizens weigh themselves once a year.

In terms of age, the younger the Internet users are, the more serious their body anxiety is. 50.1% of the post-2000 Internet users thought they were too fat and needed to lose weight, 10.2% thought they were too thin and needed to gain weight, and 39.7% had no body anxiety; Among the post-60s Internet users, only 19.5% thought they were too fat and needed to lose weight, 1.6% thought they were too thin and needed to gain weight, and 78.9% had no body anxiety.

From the emotional point of view, netizens in love have the most serious body anxiety, and single netizens are the most Buddhist. Among the netizens in love, 53.1% thought they were too fat and needed to lose weight, 8.1% thought they were too thin and needed to gain weight, and 38.8% had no body anxiety. Among the single Internet users, 42.5% thought they were too fat and needed to lose weight, 10.1% thought they were too thin and needed to gain weight, and 47.4% had no body anxiety. The proportion of married Internet users in these three categories was 49.4%, 4.9% and 45.7% respectively.

Obesity not only affects health, but also brings many other problems. According to Momo report, 72.4% of netizens think obesity has an impact on social interaction, of which 22.2% think it has a great impact, and 29.6% even beautify their height or weight on social software.

Among the obese netizens, 38.6% said that they had become self abased and sensitive because of obesity, 24.3% had social fear, and 12.3% had been bullied or discriminated against by others. From the perspective of gender, the proportion of female netizens who have social phobia due to obesity is slightly higher than that of male netizens, with 25.6% and 20.0% respectively. The proportion of female netizens beautifying their height or weight on social software is much higher than that of male netizens, with 36.1% and 16.9% respectively.

From the perspective of age, the younger the age, the higher the proportion of social fear caused by obesity. 30.8% of the post-60s Internet users had social phobia due to obesity, while only 4.2% of the post-60s Internet users had social phobia due to obesity.

In terms of occupation, college students, media practitioners and civil servants had the highest proportion of social fear due to obesity, which were 42.9%, 39.3% and 31.0% respectively.

Momo survey shows that netizens are quite tolerant of obesity. Only 9.2% of netizens have bullied or discriminated against fat people. Hunan people are the most friendly to fat people, and 95.5% of them have not bullied or discriminated against fat people, ranking first in China.

However, 64.9% of netizens still care about the figure of their lovers. From the perspective of gender, female netizens are more concerned about the body shape of their lovers than male netizens, with 68.3% and 58.3% of them respectively. From the perspective of educational background, the more educated netizens are, the less they care about the figure of their lovers. 53.1% netizens with master’s degree or above care about it, while 65.4% netizens with college degree care about it. From the geographical point of view, Shanghai, Shanxi and Shaanxi are the three provinces that care most about the figure of their lovers, accounting for 84%, 73% and 72.2% respectively, ranking the top three in China.

Some interviewees believe that although a person’s figure is affected by various factors, it can reflect his living habits, attitude towards life and sense of self-discipline to a certain extent. 75.5% of the netizens think that those who strive to improve their body are self-discipline and perseverance, and they are in pursuit of better themselves. Of course, some interviewees said that “being broad-minded and fat” is the advantage of many fat people. Their attitude towards life is often very open-minded and easy to get along with.

50% of netizens have made efforts to change their body shape, and 30% of netizens only set goals and never take action

According to Momo report, in order to have a healthier body, 50% of Internet users have made efforts to change their body shape; 26.3% of the netizens were satisfied with their figure and didn’t need to change; 24.8% of the netizens said that they only set goals and never take actions. In terms of age, 28.7% of post-2000 Internet users only set goals and never take actions.

Good exercise habits are one of the best ways to improve your figure. However, Momo survey shows that only 18.2% of netizens often exercise, and 34.2% of netizens say they hardly exercise. From the perspective of gender, the proportion of female Internet users who hardly exercise is twice that of male Internet users (41.4%), and the proportion of male Internet users who often exercise is twice that of female Internet users (26.6%). From the perspective of age, the younger the Internet users are, the lower the proportion of regular sports is. 33.3% of the Internet users who are born after 60 are active, while only 13.6% of the Internet users who are born after 00 are active. From the perspective of educational background and income, the higher the educational background and income of Internet users, the higher the proportion of regular sports.
