Gaode map, together with big data Development Department of national information center, Daimler Joint Research Center for sustainable transportation of Tsinghua University and other authoritative institutions, jointly released the 2020 traffic analysis report of major cities in China (hereinafter referred to as the report). The report for the first time released the list of “the top ten popular working roads in China”. Among them, Beijing’s “Longyu West 1st Road Xierqi North Road houchangcun road” is the most popular and ranked the first. The report also shows that the traffic congestion of major cities in China in 2020 will drop by 2.5% compared with that in 2019.

Based on Gaode map data intelligence urban traffic evaluation, diagnosis and treatment analysis and decision-making system, the most popular commuting routes with high driving commuting heat and congestion delay index higher than 1.8 are mined from the commuting routes of major cities in China. The results show that most of the top ten popular commuting routes in China are concentrated in high-tech industrial parks in cities. Among them, Beijing Longyu West 1st Road Xierqi North Road houchangcun road has the highest driving commuting heat, the morning peak congestion delay index is 2.51, the average driving commuting distance is 3.3km, and the driving time is 22 minutes, followed by Wuhan Lianmeng road Wuhan Avenue Fu Road – Second Ring Road – Donghu Road, dongxindian middle street – Jingmi road – Futong East Street in Beijing.
Urban traffic congestion in 2020 will decrease by 2.5% compared with last year
In 2020, the average peak travel delay index of 50 major cities in China is 1.609, which is 2.5% lower than that in 2019. Among them, the degree of congestion affected by the epidemic was the lowest in February. With the resumption of work and production, urban traffic gradually recovered, and congestion increased from May to December. For the whole year, in 2020, 46% of cities’ congestion delay index decreased year-on-year, 44% of cities were basically flat, and 10% of cities’ congestion increased.
In the 361 cities monitored by Gaode traffic big data, 2.49% of the cities are in the state of congestion, 37.67% of the cities are in the state of slow traffic, and the rest 59.83% of the cities are in the state of smooth traffic.
2020 National Highway congestion: 8.08% lower than last year, the most congested on the day of National Day
From the perspective of national highway, the congestion in 2020 will drop by 8.08% compared with that of last year. On October 1, the national day, the congestion degree of national highway is the highest, and the highway condition is stable on weekdays. From the perspective of festivals and holidays, the high-speed congestion affected by the epidemic during the Spring Festival decreased most significantly, by 82.8%; the high-speed congestion during the May Day and National Day holidays increased year on year, in which the high-speed congestion during the 8-day National Day holiday increased by 49.6%.
The traffic health index of Nantong was 75.45%, the highest in China, followed by Changzhou
The report takes the average value of “traffic health index” of 50 major cities in China as the critical value of health and sub-health, that is, the health level line, and obtains the traffic health list. The top ten cities were Nantong, Changzhou, Luoyang, Urumqi, Tangshan, Taizhou, Suzhou, Shaoxing, Huizhou and Nanning. Among them, Nantong has the highest traffic health level in 2020, with a traffic health index of 75.45%.

From the peak travel delay index of urban road network in 2020, the peak travel delay index of Chongqing road network is 1.952, the average speed is 25.16km/h, and the peak congestion delay index is the highest. The top ten cities are Chongqing, Xi’an, Changchun, Jinan, Beijing, Qingdao, Harbin, Nanjing, Dalian and Shanghai. Among the 50 major cities, Hohhot was the city with the largest decrease in congestion compared with the same period in 2019. The peak travel delay index of road network decreased by 10.5%, followed by Harbin and Luoyang.
Among the cities with more than 4 million cars, Suzhou has the highest traffic health index and Chongqing has the lowest
According to the data of urban car ownership, the city is divided into four levels: “more than 4 million”, “more than 3 million”, “more than 2 million” and “less than 2 million”. Among the cities with more than 4 million vehicles, Suzhou has the highest traffic health index and Chongqing has the lowest; among the cities with more than 3 million vehicles, Tianjin has the highest score and Xi’an has the lowest; among the cities with more than 2 million vehicles, Tangshan has the highest score and Guangzhou has the lowest; among the cities with less than 2 million vehicles, Nantong has the highest score and Changchun has the lowest.
Ningbo has the highest happiness index of ground bus travel in 2020
The report also shows that in 2020, Ningbo, Shijiazhuang, Nanjing and other 10 cities have a higher index, and their bus operation efficiency, reliability and comprehensive performance relative to urban traffic level are better. Ningbo’s happiness index of ground bus travel is the highest, which is the closest to the ideal value, reaching 76.39%. Shenzhen and Nanjing respectively rank first in the “happiness index” of mega cities and mega cities.
In addition, from the perspective of the average waiting time in urban peak period, the waiting time in Beijing, Xiamen and Urumqi showed a downward trend compared with the same period last year, and Beijing dropped the most, indicating that the public transport service level in Beijing has improved. The waiting time of Lanzhou is 5.6 minutes, which is the best in all cities. Chongqing and Chengdu are the largest cities and megacities respectively, and the impact of departure frequency and traffic disturbance are the lowest among the similar cities.
Through the analysis of macro data, we can also find the travel preferences and habits of citizens in different cities. The data shows that Lanzhou is the most willing city for green travel in 2020, followed by Haikou and Xi’an. Beijing is the city with the highest travel intention of bus and subway.
