The following is the 2022 PKI and IOT Trend Report From Encryption Consulting recommended by recordtrend.com. And this article belongs to the classification: Internet of things, research report.
Encryption consulting released the “2022 PKI and IOT trend report”. Digital certificates are becoming a necessity in today’s encryption industry. With the increasing use of cloud applications, the security of the Internet of things (lot) has become the most concerned issue of key data enterprises. Public key infrastructure (PKI) solves this problem because it provides core authentication and security for these technologies.
Key management complexity
Obviously, emerging technologies and applications have caused most uncertainty, and more than 40% of respondents chose this option. The budget limit has remained unchanged for many years, with about 20% of people choosing it. The other main influencing factors are PKI technology and enterprise applications, which have shown a continuous growth trend in the past three years.
PKI revocation
Certificate revocation technology is one of the key factors in PKI technology. Certificates are verified and revoked according to requirements. Most respondents agree to use OCSP Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) to revoke certificates. 42% of respondents said that automatic certificate revocation list is the next popular technology. This figure decreased by 3% compared with last year (fiscal year 21). Interestingly, 30% of the respondents mentioned that they did not deploy any certificate revocation mechanism.
PKI deployment challenges
Lack of clear ownership remains the biggest challenge, increasing from 62% in fy21 to 71% in fy22. 51% and 54% of the respondents chose the lack of skills and talents respectively. This clearly shows the complexity involved in PKI. The uncertainty of understanding demand decreased from 37% to 35%.
PKI compatibility with existing / new applications
There are several reasons why PKI is incompatible with enterprise applications. About 53% of enterprises believe that the failure to upgrade the existing PKI is the main reason for incompatibility with applications. The second is the lack of skill mix, which increased from 38% in fy21 to 46% in fy22. Understanding the requirements and complexity of legacy application migration is the next major challenge, with 36% and 44% choosing it respectively.
