The second quarter was the largest quarter on record for investment in space infrastructure. With a capital of US $4.5 billion, infrastructure investment in 2021 is expected to beat the record of US $9.1 billion set last year.

Jeff Bezos resigned as CEO of Amazon to focus on his aerospace company Blue origin. Bezos sold $6.7 billion of Amazon stock in the second quarter, of which we estimate $1 billion was invested in his space business. After four consecutive quarters of decline in transaction volume, the second quarter was the fourth highest since the record of aerospace investment. Most of the investments since the beginning of the year have entered the late stage, with 123 early stage investments accounting for 53% of all closed investment transactions and nearly $1 billion in investment.
