Investors across India are increasingly interested in beauty brands.
According to YouGov’s data, the makeup people in India are generally 21-29 years old (35%), and the proportion of women is higher than that of men (53% vs.47%). Two fifths of this group live in first tier cities (43%), and three fifths are married (59%). Nearly half of the audience have jobs (45%).
Two fifths of Indian makeup artists said they had bought beauty and cosmetics online in the past month (41%).
Online advertising is more effective than TV advertising
7 / 10 of Indian makeup artists agree that advertising helps them choose what to buy (71%), which is 10 percentage points higher than that of the general population (61%). According to the data, most respondents believe that online advertising (65%) is the most effective, followed by TV advertising (51%), printed newspapers (44%) and printed magazines (30%).
Indian makeup artists listen to Hindi radio, but read English newspapers
The data show that half of Indian makeup artists prefer to read English newspapers (52%), while only a quarter choose Hindi daily newspapers (25%).
On the other hand, when listening to the radio, nearly half of the people prefer Hindi (46%) to English (21%).
What are Indian makeup artists watching?
YouGov also asked Indian makeup artists about the types of TV programs they like to watch. A considerable part of the audience watch entertainment programs (63%), far exceeding the audience watching comedies (61%). More than half of people watch news (56%), while two fifths of TV programs are related to current affairs (39%).
For cosmetics brands, e-mail newsletters are a good way to reach the audience
In general, Indian makeup artists use the Internet to view e-mail (67%) or send messages through applications such as Skype or WhatsApp (66%). On the other hand, 3 / 5 people use it for online banking, online shopping or browsing the Internet (60%).
Indian makeup artists shop online several times a month
Nearly a quarter of Indian makeup artists shop online several times a month (23%). Followed by 20% of makeup artists shopping online several times a week, compared with 15% of the general population.
What motivates these people to buy cosmetics?
The data show that the suggestions in articles or product reviews encourage 65% of Indian makeup artists to try new cosmetics. The recommendations of friends and family were roughly the same (42% and 41%, respectively).
