The following is the Studies have found a key link between depression and inflammation From King’s College London recommended by recordtrend.com. And this article belongs to the classification: Life data.

According to a large new study involving more than 86000 people, depression and inflammation are closely linked. The study, from King’s College London, found a link between it and mental health disorders even after taking into account other factors that may contribute to inflammation.

The study collected data on 86000 people from the British biobank database, including answers to questionnaires on mental and physical health, blood samples and genetic data. Among these participants, 31% suffered from major depression (MDD), which is a kind of chronic depression and can cause major problems in people’s lives.

Among other things, the study found that people with depression also had higher levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), a marker of inflammation, in their blood than people without depression. Although taking into account the potential factors that may affect inflammation, including body mass index and smoking, the level was reduced to a certain extent, the overall level of depression was still higher.

Similarly, the researchers found that the higher a person’s genetic risk of depression, the more inflammation they may have, highlighting the possible direct biological link between more inflammation in the body and experiencing clinical depression.

Professor carmine Pariante, one of the senior authors of the study, explained:

Our large-scale analysis of the data excluded socioeconomic background, poor health, unhealthy habits, and genetic predisposition to immune dysfunction as the only explanation for the relationship between depression and inflammation. Through this exclusion, we suggest that there may be a central biological process behind the relationship between depression and increased inflammation. If we can identify this process and reveal more details of its role in the development of depression, we can pave the way for testing new therapies for this broad spectrum of mental health disorders.
