Some previous studies have shown that enhanced exercise can reduce the risk of colon cancer. The more people exercise, the less likely they are to be targeted by colon cancer. Recently, a study at the University of Newcastle in the UK confirmed this result again. More exercise can really prevent cancer. The key finding of the study is that when individuals exercise many times a week for a long time, the body will release more anti-cancer molecules, such as interleukin-6 (IL-6). These molecules can play a role in abnormal cells, promote DNA repair and slow down the growth of cancer cells.

According to their study published in the International Journal of cancer, the team recruited 16 male volunteers aged 50-80 who were accompanied by factors positively associated with the risk of bowel cancer, such as overweight or obesity. They received a blood sample collection at the beginning of the study.

Subsequently, the volunteers performed moderate intensity indoor cycling, which took 30 minutes. After the exercise, the researchers collected a second blood sample. As a control, the samples were in a resting state when there was no exercise the next day.

After analyzing and comparing the samples, the researchers confirmed that IL-6 in the blood after exercise would rise significantly. They processed the samples and added them to the colon cancer cells cultured in the laboratory. Compared with the resting samples, the samples after exercise can visually slow down the growth rate of cancer cells.

In addition to slowing the growth of cancer cells, DNA damage in blood samples after exercise is also lower, suggesting that exercise can repair cells or produce molecules to maintain genetic stability. Dr Sam orange, who participated in the study, said: “the study found that exercise may reduce the risk of colon cancer and does not have to lose weight.”

Research estimates that physical exercise can reduce the risk of colorectal cancer by about 20%. Next, the research team plans to determine how exercise reduces DNA damage and establish effective exercise patterns to best play its anti-cancer role.
