Surveys show that most dietary supplements have no weight loss effect From TOS

The following is the Surveys show that most dietary supplements have no weight loss effect From TOS recommended by recordtrend.com. And this article belongs to the classification: Life data.
Recently, a paper published in the flagship journal of the Obesity Society (TOS) pointed out that there is still a lack of strong evidence that dietary supplements and replacement therapy can help adults lose weight. The US dietary supplement market has reached the level of billions of dollars. There are hundreds of weight loss supplements on the market, such as green tea extract, chitosan, guar gum and conjugated linoleic acid. 34% of Americans who try to lose weight have used one of them.

For the study, the researchers completed a comprehensive review of 315 existing clinical trials of weight-loss supplements and treatments, most of which showed no weight loss effect among users.
“Our findings are important to clinicians, researchers and the industry because they show the need for rigorous evaluation of weight loss products,” said Dr. John Bates, a corresponding author and associate professor of geriatrics at the University of North Carolina School of medicine. Only in this way can we provide accurate data for clinicians and provide advice and suggestions to our patients with higher certainty. “.
The authors explain that patients often struggle to lose or maintain weight either because of the lack of efficacy of existing FDA approved treatments or because of the lack of access to medical experts who provide treatment for obesity. Although the office of dietary supplements of the National Institutes of health has promoted the scientific development of dietary supplements by evaluating information, motivating and supporting research, TOS members believe that it is important to evaluate and qualitatively synthesize non FDA therapies to provide scientific evidence to guide their members.
The researchers conducted a systematic literature review using the “preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta-analysis” guidelines to assess the weight loss effects of dietary supplements and replacement therapy on participants aged 18 and over. MEDLINE (PubMed), Cochrane Library, web of science, CINAHL and EMBASE (Ovid) were searched.
The researchers focused on 315 peer-reviewed randomized controlled trials and analyzed the risk of bias. Results 52 studies were classified as low risk of bias and enough to support the efficacy. Among them, 16 studies showed significant pre / post differences in body weight between groups compared with placebo. In these different studies, weight loss ranged from 0.3 to 4.93 kg.
