The second quarter of 2021 was relatively calm. Compared with the previous quarter, the total number of DDoS attacks decreased slightly. This is a typical situation, which will occur every year except 2020.

Quarterly summary

1. In the second quarter of 2021, most DDoS attacks were against the United States (36%). The attack share of China (10.28%) decreased by 6.36 percentage points, ranking second. Poland (6.34%) ranked third in this quarter, with its share increasing by 4.33 percentage points. Canada (5.23%) ranked in the top three in the first quarter and dropped to fifth in the second quarter.

2. The most active day of DDoS attacks this quarter was June 2, when 1164 attacks occurred. The quietest day is April 18, only 60 times. On 24 and 25 June, the number of attacks was less than 200. However, there were more than 1000 DDoS attacks on two days in the second quarter.

3. In the second quarter, DDoS attacks were more evenly distributed in a week than in the first quarter, and the share increased from Monday to Thursday. Most DDoS attacks occur on Tuesday (15.31%), and the quietest day of the week is Sunday (13.26%).

4. In the fourth quarter of 2020, the longest attack lasted more than 302 hours. The longest attack time in the first quarter of 2021 was 746 hours (more than 31 days), and the longest attack time in the second quarter was 776 hours (more than 32 days).

5. 60% of DDoS attacks use UDP flooding.

6. The country with the most botnet C & C servers is the United States (47.95%).
