In the third quarter, the anti phishing system blocked 46340156 attempts to open phishing links. A total of 3.56% of users encountered this threat.

Geographical distribution of phishing attacks

Brazil has the largest proportion of affected users (6.63%). The top three also included Australia (6.41%) and Bangladesh (5.42%). Israel (5.33%) dropped from second to fifth.

Top level domain

As before, the top-level domain most commonly used to host phishing pages in the third quarter was com (29.17%). XYZ (14.17%) returned to the second place, and its share increased by 5.66 percentage points. Org (3.65%) fell 5.14 percentage points to fifth place.

Organizations subject to phishing attacks

The global Internet portal (20.68%) is the organization most often used as bait by cybercriminals. Online stores (20.63%) ranked second by a narrow margin. As in the previous quarter, banks ranked third (11.94%) and payment systems ranked fourth (7.78%). The fifth and sixth places were social networks and blogs (6.24%) and instant messaging applications (5.06%).

Phishing in messages

In the third quarter of 2021, safe messaging blocked 117854 attempts to redirect through phishing links of various messengers. Among them, 106359 links (90.25%) were detected and blocked in WhatsApp messages. Among all the detected links, Viber accounts for 5.68%, telegraph accounts for 3.74%, and Google hangouts accounts for 0.02%.
