The following is the 2022 global coffee market and Trade Report From United States Department of Agriculture recommended by recordtrend.com. And this article belongs to the classification: Life data, research report.
The United States Department of agriculture (USDA) recently released the global coffee market and trade report. It is estimated that the global coffee production in 2022/23 will total 175million bags (60 kg per bag, the same below), an increase of 7.8 million bags compared with last year. It is mainly due to the increase in production of Brazilian arabica in the new year. Global coffee consumption is also expected to increase by 1.8 million bags to 167million bags. The European Union, the United States, Japan and Brazil remain the world’s largest coffee consumers.
Global coffee exports are expected to increase slightly, mainly due to the increase in production in Brazil and Indonesia. And it is estimated that the ending inventory will increase by 2.1 million bags to 34.7 million bags.
Major coffee producing countries
Brazil
It is estimated that the production of Arabica coffee in Brazil will increase by 5.1 million bags to 41.5 million bags in 2022/23. The big year of the production cycle has helped increase the production of Brazilian coffee this year, but the coffee trees in most production areas are still recovering from drought and frost disasters, so they are below the historical highest level of 50million bags.
Robusta coffee production is expected to increase by 1.1 million bags to 22.8 million bags, mainly due to good weather conditions and field management in the state of San Espirito (Brazil’s largest Robusta coffee producing area).
Finally, the total output of Brazilian coffee is expected to increase by 6.2 million bags to 64.3 million bags, and the new output will be used for export and replenishment of inventory.
Vietnam
Vietnam’s coffee production in 2022/23 is expected to be 30.9 million bags, a decrease of 700000 bags compared with the record production of the previous year, 95% of which is still Robusta coffee.
The early rainy season helps coffee trees bloom and bear fruit smoothly, and the humid climate also allows the manor to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers. However, the fertilizer price, which has increased by an average of 70% in the past six months, has affected local coffee planting. In order to save costs, some manors chose to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers, which led to a reduction in production this year.
It is expected that the number of coffee exports will also decrease by 1million bags to 25million bags, and the ending inventory will remain at 3.5 million bags.
Columbia
It is estimated that in 2022/23, Colombia will produce 13million bags of coffee. Similarly, the recent sharp rise in fertilizer prices has limited the use of coffee farmers, resulting in no increase in output.
Colombia relies heavily on imports of chemical fertilizers, especially nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. The National Federation of coffee growers (FNC) of Colombia has distributed fertilizers to coffee plantations and coffee farmers through alternative planting projects, but the amount is not enough to meet all needs.
It is estimated that the export volume of coffee can reach 11.8 million bags, mainly exported to the United States and European Union countries.
Indonesia
It is estimated that the coffee production in Indonesia will increase by 800000 bags to 11.4 million bags in 2022/23. Among them, the output of Robusta coffee reached 10million bags, and good weather conditions in South Sumatra and Java island, which accounted for more than 75%, ensured the growth of output in the past year. The picking season this year is mainly between May and July.
Arabica coffee production is also expected to increase slightly to 1.4 million bags. The export volume of coffee is expected to increase by 200000 bags to 6.5 million bags.
India
Indian coffee production is expected to increase by 200000 bags to 5.7 million bags in 2022/23. It also benefited from the good weather conditions during the flowering and growth period, which ensured the increase of yield. It is expected that the number of coffee exports will also increase by 100000 bags to 3.9 million bags, and the ending inventory will maintain the current level.
Major coffee consuming countries
european union
It is estimated that in 2022/23, EU coffee imports will increase by 100000 bags to 4.6 million bags, accounting for 40% of the total global coffee imports. Mainly from Brazil (40%), Vietnam (20%), Uganda (8%) and Honduras (7%). The ending inventory is expected to decrease by 400000 bags to 12.4 million bags, while the consumption will increase slightly.
U.S.A
It is estimated that the import volume of coffee in the United States will increase by 500000 bags to 25.5 million bags in 2022/23. Mainly from Brazil (30%), Colombia (19%), Vietnam (10%) and Honduras (7%). The ending inventory is expected to increase by 300000 bags to 6.5 million bags.
