GSMA released the “Asia Pacific region mobile economy report 2020”, and the mobile industry continued to support the economic recovery and growth in the Asia Pacific region.

Asia Pacific mobile operators will invest more than $400 billion in their networks between 2020 and 2025, of which $331 billion will be used for 5g deployment. The region is one of the fastest growing regions in the world, with more than half of the world’s users. In addition, mobile technologies and services in the Asia Pacific region will generate $1.6 trillion in economic value (5.3% of GDP) in 2019, and countries will increasingly benefit from the productivity and efficiency gains brought about by the increased use of mobile services. The mobile ecosystem also supports 18 million jobs and contributes significantly to public sector funding, contributing $180 billion to taxes.

5g Investment:

In 2020-2025, mobile operators will invest more than $400 billion (capital expenditure) in their networks, of which nearly two-thirds (331 billion dollars) will be used for 5g deployment;

The Asia Pacific region has some of the world’s most advanced 5g markets, and nine markets have launched commercial mobile 5g services.

In countries such as Bangladesh, India, Indonesia and Pakistan, 4G is still the dominant technology in the whole region.

Regional growth:

At the end of 2019, 2.8 billion people in the Asia Pacific region used mobile services, accounting for 66% of the total population.

By 2025, the Asia Pacific region will account for about half of the world’s new users. By that time, 266 million new users are expected in the entire region, a total of just over 3 billion (70% of the population).

Social and economic development:

In the next six years, 663 million people in the Asia Pacific region will start using mobile Internet for the first time. By 2025, the total number of mobile Internet users in the region will reach about 2.7 billion (61% of the population).
