The following is the Fourth quarter 2021 space Investment Report From Space Capital recommended by recordtrend.com. And this article belongs to the classification: Investment & Economy, research report.

The space economy benefited from the significant increase in global venture capital. In 2021, investors invested US $17.1 billion in 328 space companies, setting a new record, accounting for 3% of the total global venture capital.

2021 is an important year for spac. Two portfolio companies are listed in this way: Rocket Lab ($rklb) and planet labs ($PL). Planet was one of the first investments made by space capital in early 2015, when space capital was just starting, so it was particularly meaningful to see them achieve this milestone.

In the private market, 134 space companies received $14.7 billion in investment in the fourth quarter. $2529.4 billion worth of equity investment in space related companies in the past 12 years. This is a record year for investment in the industry, with $46.3 billion invested in all space technology stacks. For space infrastructure investment, this is a particularly huge year, with a total investment of US $14.5 billion, more than 50% higher than the record set in 2020.

So far, the launch and satellite industry has accounted for the largest share of space infrastructure investment (95%), but this is also a record year for investment in other industries in this layer. This year, $900 million has been invested, and investment in emerging industries is 2.8 times higher than the previous record set in 2020. The biggest beneficiary is the “biosphere” (i.e. the space station, here is the industry definition), with a total investment of US $300 million. Geographically, there are new countries leading investment in these emerging industries: Although the United States has continued to lead with 62% of the total investment in the past 10 years, Japan ranks second with 30% and Italy ranks third with 2%. However, most of the investment in infrastructure is based on the current Falcon 9 model.
