Ipsos released its new report “Global Forecast 2022”. The survey results of 33 countries around the world show that although concerns about rising prices and climate change still exist, most countries in the Asia Pacific region are optimistic about the new year.
Ipsos surveyed 22023 adults aged 16-74 in 33 countries from October 22 to November 5, 2021. Although COVID-19 is still widespread, people in the Asia Pacific region generally believe that the vaccination rate will increase, and air travel is expected to remain below the level in 2019.
Most Asia Pacific respondents expect 2022 to be better, with China the most optimistic (94%), followed by India (83%), Australia and Malaysia (both 82%) and Singapore (79%). Only South Korea (71%) and Japan (54%) are below the global average (77%).
When asked if 2021 was a bad year for them and their families, the countries most likely to agree were South Korea (74%), India (63%), Malaysia (62%), Singapore (60%) and Australia (59%). Only Japan (49%) and China (39%) are below the global average (58%).
The Asia Pacific region is more confident in the economic outlook and believes that the global economy in 2022 will be stronger than that in 2021, exceeding the global average (61%), including China (87%), India (80%), Malaysia (75%), Singapore (71%), Australia (69%), South Korea (63%) and Japan (62%).
Respondents in the Asia Pacific region believe that by 2022, more than 80% of the world’s population will be vaccinated with at least one dose of NCV, of which 80% will be in China, followed by Malaysia (79%), India (75%), Singapore (70%), Australia (65%) and South Korea (64%). Only Japan (45%) has a poll below the global average of 56%.
However, the Asia Pacific region is pessimistic about travel. 68% of Chinese respondents expect the number of people flying to decrease in 2022, followed by Singapore (67%), Malaysia (66%), Australia (57%) and India (52%). The global average is 45%, and Japan (36%) and South Korea (35%) are below the average.
