Mobile gender gap report 2022 From GSMA

The following is the Mobile gender gap report 2022 From GSMA recommended by recordtrend.com. And this article belongs to the classification: GSMA, Consumer research, research report.
According to the latest analysis of GSMA, mobile Internet access in low-income and middle-income countries (LMIC) is expanding rapidly, but it may further lag behind women.
The survey shows that low – and middle-income countries have made progress in women’s equal digital inclusion. By 2021, 59million women in low – and middle-income countries will start using the mobile Internet, compared with 110million in 2020.
Recently, the growth rate of women’s adoption of mobile Internet in low – and middle-income countries has slowed down, in sharp contrast to the sustained high growth rate of men. This is the first time that GSMA data has recorded such a negative trend.
The report shows that in low – and middle-income countries, the gender gap in mobile Internet has narrowed every year from 2017 to 2020, from 25% to 15%. However, the data of 2021 shows that this momentum has weakened. At present, women are 16% less likely to use mobile Internet than men, which is equivalent to 264million fewer women than men using mobile Internet.
This rebound is more evident in South Asia, which traditionally has the largest mobile gender gap. The gender gap in mobile Internet has narrowed significantly, from 67% in 2017 to 36% in 2020, but now it has expanded to 41%.
GSMA launched the Internet women’s commitment initiative in 2016 to help narrow the mobile gender gap. During this period, more than 40 mobile operators in Africa, Asia and Latin America have formally committed to accelerating women’s digital and financial inclusion. These operators have provided mobile Internet or mobile money services to more than 55million women.
However, mobile operators cannot work in isolation. The mobile gender gap is an important global issue that requires the attention of all stakeholders to ensure that women and their families can benefit fully from connectivity. Overall, only 60% of women in low – and middle-income countries currently use mobile Internet, compared with 71% of men.
