Ipso’s “attitude towards disposable plastics” survey shows that an average of 3 / 4 respondents in 28 countries / regions agree to ban the use of disposable plastics as soon as possible.
Latin America and BRICs countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) have the highest degree of agreement on banning the use of disposable plastics, with 88% and 80% respectively; North America had the lowest level of consent, at 61%.
Colombia (89%), Chile and Mexico (both 88%), Argentina and China (both 84%) have the highest recognition level of banning disposable plastics, Japan (37%) is the lowest, and the United States (55%) and Canada (66%) are in the middle.
On average, 88% of respondents in 28 countries believe that it is important to develop an international treaty to combat plastic pollution. Similarly, Latin America (93%), the BRICs (91%) and the Middle East / Africa (90%) are the regions with the highest level of identity.
The top five countries were Mexico (96%), Brazil (95%), Colombia (94%), Chile and Peru (both 92%). The lowest are Japan (70%), the United States (78%) and Canada (79%).
On average, 82% of global consumers prefer to use as few plastic packaging products as possible. Similarly, Latin America and BRICs countries have the highest approval rates, 89% and 84%, respectively. At the national level, China, Mexico and Colombia topped the list with a consent rate of 92%, followed by Chile (90%) and Peru (87%). Similarly, Japan has the lowest approval rate (56%), followed by the United States (71%) and the Netherlands (73%).
Most people agree that manufacturers and retailers should bear the responsibility of reducing, reusing and recycling plastic packaging, with a global average of 85%. Latin Americans are most likely to agree (89%), followed by Europeans. Public opinion in Japan is not so consistent, and only 72% of Japanese agree with this statement.
