Ipsos released the “report on International Women’s Day 2022”. Most people in the world believe that gender inequality actually exists. The global average is 55%. Although there is evidence that global gender inequality has increased since the start of the new coronal pandemic, less than one in five respondents agreed (18%). Men were more likely than women to agree that gender inequality did not exist (21% vs. 14%). In some countries, the proportion of men who think so is twice that of women, including Australia (30%vs.14%), Romania (27%vs.13%), and Russia (30%vs.12%).
Men are also more likely to be skeptical of the benefits of feminism and question the existence of gender inequality today:
One third of men believe that feminism does more harm than good (the global average is 32%) and that traditional masculinity is being threatened (33%).
Women are unlikely to agree with this statement. 20% of women agree that feminism does more harm than good, and 25% believe that traditional masculinity is being threatened.
19% believed that feminism led to men’s failure in economic or political power or social power, and men were more likely than women to agree (23%vs.15%).
A minority accuses victims of violence against women
About half did not agree that “violence against women is often provoked by victims” (55 per cent), or that “women who claim to be abused often fabricate or exaggerate abuse or rape” (53 per cent).
About one in seven said that violence against women was often provoked by victims (15 per cent), of which women accounted for 13 per cent.
The same proportion believed that abused women often fabricated or exaggerated facts (15%).
Although 3/4 of the respondents do not agree that women have the obligation to have sex with their boyfriend or husband even if they do not like it (76%).
Young people are more likely to agree with these three views. For example, about 1/5 of generation Z and millennials agree that violence against women is often provoked by victims, 18% and 19% respectively.
