Google Hong Kong today released the first edition of the white paper “smart digital city – whole city AI”, and released the AI readiness index (AI readiness index). Google Hong Kong commissioned KPMG to conduct the three-year study to reveal Hong Kong’s readiness for the cognitive and application of artificial intelligence (AI). With a full score of 100, the AI readiness index of Hong Kong citizens is 50, and that of enterprises is 56, which reflects that Hong Kong has a solid foundation and ideal development prospect in the application of artificial intelligence and innovative technology.
Wei Lini, managing director of sales and operations of Google Hong Kong, said: “this year, the epidemic has affected a wide range of people, society and all walks of life. We will explore how to use this new technology to help Hong Kong’s economy recover. In fact, the products and services commonly used by Hong Kong people have already applied artificial intelligence, and Hong Kong enterprises are also using the productivity tools, cloud solutions and digital marketing platform based on artificial intelligence. The results of this study are encouraging and reflect the optimistic and open attitude of Hong Kong people and enterprises towards artificial intelligence and hope to acquire relevant knowledge to maintain competitiveness. This is laying a good foundation for the development of smart digital city. “
“In the post epidemic period, sustainable development of teamwork and closer cooperation and communication are of great importance. In order to help all people better understand artificial intelligence, we have launched the traditional Chinese version of “a to Z Artificial Intelligence Introduction Guide” in Hong Kong to explain the concept, technology and operation of artificial intelligence in simple language. Local higher education institutions are also interested in adding teaching materials related to artificial intelligence and machine learning such as “explore ml” and “tensorflow” in their courses. “
“Seeing that the new crown epidemic has significantly accelerated the digital transformation of many industries and changed personal behavior habits, we are glad to be able to conduct this study with Google Hong Kong in a timely manner, setting a new benchmark for assessing the maturity of local adoption of AI, and setting a new benchmark for all parties in terms of AI expertise, confidence, setup, use and expenditure It provides insights to help enterprises and decision makers to better develop strategies to meet the changing new needs. “
The positive impact of AI should be affirmed, and knowledge and talents need to be strengthened
Hong Kong people and enterprises recognize the positive impact and opportunities that artificial intelligence can bring. 65% of the respondents expected AI to bring positive effects to society, 63% believed that convenience was the main reason for AI application, and the most commonly used related products and services were intelligent translation (80%) and route intelligence suggestions (79%). However, the survey reflected concerns of the public, including the use of their data without knowledge or permission (49%), and the cost of using related products and services (40%). The respondents expected the business sector (70%) and the public sector (81%) to help promote AI related education. Many of them expressed interest in understanding the basic knowledge of AI and machine learning (44%), the technology applications and cases of AI and machine learning (44%), and data science and data analysis (42%).
In terms of enterprises, 78% believed that artificial intelligence would bring more benefits and improve the society, especially quality and efficiency, and promote economic recovery. However, the shortage of funds (56%), knowledge (51%) and talents (50%) are still the main obstacles to the application of AI. Among the five indicators of AI readiness index, the “expenditure” index of enterprises is higher than other indicators, which reflects enterprises’ active research on future investment in artificial intelligence, while the lower score of “knowledge” index reflects that enterprises are lack of relevant professional knowledge and talents. Although 49% of enterprises have formulated big data strategy, only 31% of enterprises have their own databases or enrich their databases through third parties. Enterprises must have appropriate settings and adjust their business models, such as making good use of cloud solutions and formulating data management guidelines to promote the application of artificial intelligence.
Artificial intelligence can also help enterprises deal with risk management, improve operational efficiency and product and service quality, and meet the rapidly changing needs of consumers. In terms of small and medium-sized enterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises expect to know the return on investment. Compared with 21% of large enterprises, 31% of small and medium-sized enterprises think that lack of funds is an obstacle to the application of artificial intelligence. In fact, many solutions using artificial intelligence technology are in line with the needs of SMEs in Hong Kong. SMEs should clearly understand the most urgent business problems of the company, and then select appropriate technical solutions, such as applying data analysis to improve the efficiency of product and inventory portfolio or supply chain management.
Promote and popularize AI application
In the context of the epidemic, the demand for digital solutions has risen sharply, prompting the public and private sectors to rethink and adjust their development strategies. Therefore, it is very important to establish public trust in AI, so that users can control their personal data and data management more easily, and use the products and services supported by AI technology more confidently.
Policy makers and regulators play an important role in promoting the development of artificial intelligence. It is necessary to formulate corresponding regulatory measures to enhance confidence and eliminate business concerns about regulation. At the same time, private enterprises and public organizations should strengthen education and on-the-job training. Private enterprises should give full play to the data benefits, so as to make more wise decisions. The long-term success of private enterprises is to enhance industry knowledge and cultivate innovative talents.
