Sharechat and Nielsen India released their latest report “understanding India’s billion internet users.”. The report is based on a survey of 3788 respondents from 81 cities in India, 40% of whom are from secondary and tertiary cities.
Unlike people in urban centers, most dialect netizens in India (78%) use social media in their leisure time, while urban users spend most of their time on streaming media platforms with various contents.
The report found that:
78% of Bharat (dialect speaking Indians) visit social media in their spare time, such as watching, uploading and creating content.
73% of Indian Internet users log on to social networking platforms every day, and they are most active between 7 pm and 11 pm.
Bharat users spend more than five hours a week accessing social media and log in at least three times a day.
Video remains its preferred form, with users spending up to two minutes per video.
49% of users publish content every day, and images are the content type to upload and do more, followed by video.
Music, comedy and news are the most popular types of content on social media.
Messaging, banking, and payment, delivery, and online shopping are also the most popular applications for social media users.
Video is the most preferred form, and video with a duration of less than 2 minutes is preferred.
Bharat users spend more on travel and expensive daily necessities.
Internet consumption is driven by mobile data. With the price of network packets getting cheaper, 9 / 10 of Indian Internet users spend most of their time using mobile networks. Reliance Jie is Bharat’s favorite mobile network.
In terms of mobile devices, most parts of India have brand awareness, and millet and Samsung are the most popular brand choices.
