The following is the European tourism trends and prospects in the fourth quarter of 2019 From European Tourism Commission recommended by recordtrend.com. And this article belongs to the classification: Tourism economy, research report.
Tourism in Europe will grow by 4% in 2019, with a moderate growth rate compared with (+ 6%) in 2018.
International tourists’ arrival destination
The latest figures show that the number of arrivals or overnight stays at tourist resorts is increasing, though at a slower rate than in previous years. Only three destinations have growth rates above 10%: Black Mountain (+ 21%) enjoys strong growth momentum; Turkey (+ 14%) will invest heavily in tourism diversification in 2020; and Lithuania’s strong performance (+ 10%) is driven by connectivity.
Slovakia (+ 9%) and the Netherlands (+ 8%) performed better than average. Serbia (+ 7%) benefited from visa free policies and supportive bilateral political and economic relations, enjoying strong growth from the Chinese market. Portugal (+ 7%) became the first country to be awarded “barrier free tourism destination in 2019”. Romania (- 4%) hindered tourism growth due to challenges such as infrastructure. Visitors to Iceland fell sharply (- 14%), the largest drop of all destinations.
The situation in the aviation and accommodation industry is mixed
RPK growth in Europe continued to slow (+ 4.2%), reflecting weak economic activity.
On the other hand, compared with 2018, the European accommodation industry performed positively, with occupancy rate increasing by 0.4%, average room price (ADR) and revenue per room (RevPAR) increased by 2.1% and 2.5% respectively.
Driven by unfavorable factors, the tourism industry has started a busy year
According to the latest data in 2019, the number of Chinese tourists to a few European destinations has soared. The best performing destinations were Montenegro (+ 83%), Serbia (+ 39%) and Monaco (+ 38%). Novel coronavirus outbreak has aggravated people’s concern about the impact of global tourism on China, one of the largest outbound tourist markets in the world.
By the end of 2019, the number of American tourists in most European countries has increased, with Turkey (+ 30%), Cyprus (+ 27%) and Montenegro (+ 26%).
