Mobile application ecosystem usage report in 2021 From Sensor Tower

The following is the Mobile application ecosystem usage report in 2021 From Sensor Tower recommended by recordtrend.com. And this article belongs to the classification: Sensor Tower, Mobile Internet, Mobile application.

According to the annual review report released today by sensor tower, an application intelligence company, the covid-19 pandemic continues to affect the mobile application ecosystem. In the early days of the pandemic, the use of some applications increased rapidly – such as those focusing on online shopping, entertainment, business and education. Although most parts of the world have reopened, the situation of app stores has not completely returned to normal.

The new report found that the download volume of some application categories is still much higher than that before the pandemic, while other applications have not been fully restored.

Tourism applications have naturally been hit hard by the pandemic, because countries have closed their borders to tourists and visitors, and personal activities have been cancelled. In addition, the rise of telework has led to a reduction in the demand for shared car applications and other applications related to daily commuting. In general, tourism and navigation applications have been hardest hit by the pandemic. Compared with the total in 2019, the installation volume in April 2020 decreased by about 40%.

Obviously, the tourism category as a whole is still determined by the ups and downs of covid. For example, as the situation began to improve in summer, tourism applications began to show restorative growth. Sensor tower said that by the summer tourism peak in July 2021, the tourism application has almost reached the average level in 2019. But with the emergence of Omicron variants, tourism applications see these benefits begin to fade. As of December 2021, tourism applications have decreased by 14% compared with the level in 2019, while navigation applications have decreased by 22%.

Other application categories are less affected by the daily battle of covid surge, but may represent a long-term transformation trend. Commercial applications are an important example. Installation in this category remains high because many companies accept full-time remote work – or at least postpone plans to return to the office in the surge in Omicron. Overall, in 2021, the download growth of commercial applications is still more than twice the pre pandemic level (+ 102%).

It is clear that the use of medical applications has also increased during pandemics. This category has risen significantly from the level in 2019, and the number of downloads in December 2021 has increased by 187% compared with the monthly average level in 2019.

Other application categories continue to benefit from pandemic driven growth, but to a lesser extent. Games, health and fitness and education applications still increased by 39%, 31% and 19% respectively compared with the level in 2019. Among them, sports applications rebounded rapidly when the League was reopened in the second half of 2020, and the growth rate in 2021 was 3% higher than that in 2019.

The report also points out that during the pandemic, the normalization of application downloads varies in different countries. Compared with other regions, North America will recover to the total amount in 2019 as soon as possible. At the same time, the impact of the pandemic lasted for a long time in the Asian market. By the fourth quarter of 2021, the Games in the Asian market were still nearly 40% higher than the level before the pandemic, and the installation of tourism applications still decreased by 25%.

In addition, some top U.S. tourism applications have exceeded the pre pandemic level, including those of airlines, vacation homes and travel agencies. However, navigation and car sharing applications are still in the doldrums. In the European market, growth began to recover, but the top applications in each tourism subcategory were still lower than the total before the pandemic, as were navigation and car sharing applications.

Sensor tower pointed out that its figures do not include Apple’s and Google’s own pre installed applications or third-party Android application stores other than Google play.

The company’s full report delves into other noteworthy trends in 2021, including the transfer of cryptocurrency to the mobile end in the past year, which promoted a year-on-year growth of 35% in the financial category in the fourth quarter of 2021. In terms of games, Garena fire finally ranked first in terms of downloads, beating the top game “among us” in 2020 and the champion “pubg mobile” in 2019.

Of course, the increase in installation is only one way to examine the impact of the pandemic on the application economy. The improvement of the overall utilization rate of applications also helps to promote consumers’ spending on applications to a new level. In the third quarter of 2021, the consumer spending of APP mall reached a record $28 billion, and the annual revenue is expected to reach $133 billion.
