A new study by PwC shows that culture has entered the leadership agenda, but the cognitive gap between senior management and other departments of the company has never been so large.
Culture is the source of competitive advantage
69% of respondents said that their enterprises had adapted to “culture is also the source of competitive advantage” in the past year. Three quarters of senior management (72%) agreed that their culture contributed to the successful implementation of change initiatives.
Globally, 73% of respondents said that culture is the source of competitive advantage. During the new crown pandemic, it becomes easier to make quick decisions. In the United States (81%), Britain (77%) and China (81%), the recognition of this statement has increased. Globally, only 57% of respondents said that culture is not the source of competitive advantage. In China, the proportion dropped to 38%; In India, the proportion rose to 68%.

Differences of attitude between senior management and other departments of the enterprise
In 2018, 66% of front-line employees thought culture was more important than strategy or operation mode, compared with 46% in 2021. Different employees also have different views on goals. 77% of senior managers feel that they have a personal connection with the company’s goals, while the proportion of other employees is only 54%.
Senior management and other employees also have different attitudes towards diversity, fairness and inclusiveness (DEI).
71% of senior managers think they can maintain themselves at work; Only 52% of middle managers and front-line employees think so.
69% of senior management think their enterprise is flexible and can meet different needs; Only 51% of middle-level and front-line employees think so.
