European Economic Forecast in winter 2022 From European Commission

The following is the European Economic Forecast in winter 2022 From European Commission recommended by recordtrend.com. And this article belongs to the classification: Investment & Economy, research report.

The European Commission released the “European economic forecast for the winter of 2022”. Entering the new year, the EU’s economic performance is weaker than previously expected. After returning to pre pandemic output levels last summer, a moderate slowdown is expected in autumn. However, since then, the resistance to growth has been increasing. After a period of weakness, economic expansion will resume in the second quarter of this year and remain strong during the forecast period. After a strong recovery of 5.3% in 2021, the EU economy is now expected to grow by 4% in 2022, the same as in the eurozone. It will also grow by 2.8% in 2023 and 2.7% in the eurozone.

The resurgence of the pandemic last fall and the exponential spread of the new Omicron variant led to new pressures on the health system and a surge in absenteeism in many EU countries. EU governments have restored restrictions, although they are usually more moderate or targeted than previous waves. Continued logistics and supply bottlenecks, including shortages of semiconductors and some metals, continue to put pressure on production, as do rising energy prices. Stronger than expected inflationary pressures put additional pressure on household purchasing power.

The latest forecast also raised the inflation rate because energy prices will remain high for a longer time and price pressure is expanding to related goods and services. Inflation in the eurozone is expected to peak in the first quarter of 2022 and remain above 3% until the third quarter of this year. As supply constraints and energy price pressures subside, inflation is expected to decline significantly in the last quarter of this year and stabilize below 2% next year. Overall, inflation in the eurozone is expected to rise from 2.6% in 2021 to 3.5% in 2022 and fall to 1.7% in 2023; EU inflation rose from 2.9% to 3.9% and fell to 1.9% in 2023.
