Sheila and Robert challey released the “2021 survey on freedom, progress and development of American College Students”. The report assesses students’ views on diversity of views and freedom on campus; Human progress and faith in the future; Students’ attitudes towards entrepreneurship, capitalism, and how universities affect their views.
American colleges and universities play a vital role in shaping future political, cultural and business leaders. The American public is also paying more and more attention to the current situation and development direction of higher education and its impact on society. Most students (57%) feel comfortable sharing their views on controversial or sensitive topics in class. A large number of students (43%) are unwilling to share such views.
Most students (76) believe that professors create a classroom atmosphere where people with different views can easily share their views.
Nearly 80% of students believe that professors encourage students to explore a variety of views and perspectives.
Only 21% of students said that professors publicize their political views very frequently in class.
Most students believe that college education helps them form a more accurate view of the world and the United States, but this view varies among students with different political ideologies. Generally speaking, conservative students are unlikely to think that college education will help them form a more accurate view.
Most students are not going to start their own businesses. Moreover, most people also report that their university courses and other university activities do not encourage them to start a business.
